S.A.G.E. Wellness recently led a workshop with Baltimore County Public Schools entitled “Roots & Branches: Mindful Restorative Practices that Raise Awareness, Consciousness, and Shift Mindsets” Participants discussed the importance of cultivating a race and equity lens, the racial empathy gap and its connection to implicit bias and the subconscious mind, as well as the psychology of prejudice. S.A.G.E. Founder, Malene Kai Bell connected the lived experiences of students of color to nationwide data on school discipline and discussed ways for educators to disrupt the cycle of discrimination and punishment in classrooms through mindfulness and increased self-awareness.
